The link between science and
practice in agroforestry.

CEIA

Practice has already confirmed it.

Thousands of farmers in Brazil already produce healthy food in agroforestry systems.

Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) are more than an agricultural technique. They are a sophisticated way to align food production with the resilience of natural processes. It is the integration of crops and/or animals with trees.

Scientific evidence

Science has already proven it.

Agroforestry is a proven solution to several current global agriculture challenges.
Over the past 40 years, almost 16,000 scientific studies about agroforestry were published, globally. Meta-analyses using data from thousands of publications show that when compared to monocultures, agroforestry:

Agroforestry is the future

But why isn't it everywhere yet?

There are critical knowledge and data gaps

From financial data to data that is applicable to each reality

Shortage of trained professionals

Prepared to design, deploy and manage SAFs in different biomes and productive realities.

Difficulty accessing specialized technical support

The implementation of SAFs requires technical knowledge and continuous monitoring.
CEIA IS BORN

The CEIA — Centre for Ecological Innovation in Agroforestry — was created to respond to this challenge.

We don't plant agroforestry. We empower those who already plant - and those who want to plant - with more data and knowledge. We are a non-profit research centre that works to scale Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) through the dissemination of knowledge, training, and technical support.

We articulate the knowledge that makes agroforestry the best option.
our services

Our impact occurs on three interconnected fronts

Applied Research

There is a lot of scientific knowledge about agroforestry - but more is still needed. More data, more application, more precision.

  • We curate data, research, and experiences scattered across Brazil
  • We connect universities with those in the field
  • In our projects we use the concepts of Living Labs and bioregions.

Technical Training

More specialized professionals are needed to design, deploy, and manage SAFs in different biomes and productive realities.

  • We develop agroforestry training programs in partnership with educational institutions
  • We support existing initiatives that need reinforcement, structure, or updating

Specialized Support

The difference between trying and achieving: the right knowledge, at the right time. Tailor-made technical support for real projects:

  • We connect farmers and companies with experienced professionals, offering direct support in the implementation and management of SAFs - from diagnosis to solution
  • We diagnose and monitor the third-party consulting process to ensure quality and feasible solutions.
our partners

We don't do anything alone.

CEIA is strengthened through collaboration with the biggest names in agroforestry in Brazil and in the world.
